Every contractor on this site is drawn from the official SEAI register of contractors approved under the Better Energy Homes scheme. That is the list that decides whether your work is grant-eligible, so it is the only list worth starting from.
What the register confirms is that a contractor is entitled to carry out grant-assisted work for a given measure. It is not a recommendation, a rating or a vetting, and neither is a listing here. Get three quotes, compare them on what is actually included, and check the registration before you commit.

Insulation Types, and How Many Contractors Hold Each
A contractor is registered per measure, so the lists differ. Pick the work you need and you get only the contractors who do it.
Why the Lists Are Split by Measure
A contractor registers with SEAI per measure rather than as a general insulator, so the register is really four overlapping lists. Someone approved for attic insulation is not automatically approved for external wall, and using them for work they are not registered for costs you the grant.
That is why picking the measure first gets you a shorter and more useful list than browsing everyone in your county. Most contractors hold two measures, some hold four, and a handful hold one.
If you are not sure which measure your house needs, the wall thickness at a window reveal is the quickest thing to check yourself: around 225mm or less is usually solid, nearer 300mm suggests a cavity. A contractor will confirm properly before quoting.
Which Measure Does My House Need?Before You Contact Anyone
A few minutes of preparation makes the quotes you get back comparable, and stops the first visit being spent establishing things you already knew.
The single most useful thing is to know roughly when the house was built and what the walls are made of, because that decides which measures are even possible. The second is to have resolved anything letting water in, since no reputable contractor will insulate over an active leak.

Does a Listing Mean You Recommend Them?
No. This is a directory, not a vetting or a rating. A listing confirms a contractor is on the SEAI register for that measure and nothing more, which is why the advice throughout is to get three quotes and compare them properly.
Do You Charge Anything, or Sell My Details?
Neither. The site is free to use with no sign-up, you contact contractors directly using the details on their profile, and enquiries go to that contractor rather than being distributed to several.
Why Do the County Numbers Not Add Up?
Because a contractor is registered per measure and most hold more than one, so the same company appears on every list they qualify for. The county total counts each contractor once; the measure lists together count some of them twice.
What if There Are No Contractors in My County?
Contractors routinely work across county lines, and most travel well beyond their registered address. Each county page shows the neighbouring counties that carry contractors for that measure, which is the place to start.
How Often Is the Register Updated Here?
The listings are rebuilt from a fresh pull of the SEAI register rather than being maintained by hand, so they reflect the register as at the last pull. Always confirm a contractor is still registered before commissioning work.
