Your home must have been built and occupied before 2011. It must be your principal private residence. Works must be carried out by an SEAI-registered contractor — there is no income test.
Yes. You can combine cavity wall and external wall insulation in the same project and claim both grants. Wall insulation grants can also be stacked with attic insulation, heat pump and solar panel grants. Heat pump installation must be carried out by a RECI-registered electrician — find one at electriciansinireland.ie.
How the money reaches you depends on the route. Through a One Stop Shop the grant is taken off the price before you pay, so you are invoiced for the balance only. If you apply for an individual grant yourself, you pay the contractor in full and SEAI pays you once the work is finished and signed off, so budget for the full amount first. Some registered contractors will agree to be nominated for the payment instead, which has the same effect as a deduction, but that is an arrangement to confirm with them rather than something to assume.
The grant application is handled by your contractor. Once the work is completed and signed off by the SEAI, payment to the contractor typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. The physical works themselves can take one day to three weeks depending on the type of insulation.
